Chrysler Will Add 900 Jobs Next Year;

Chrysler said that it will keep its Sterling Heights factory in Michigan open after rumors came out that the factory would be closed. It was reported that the factory would be closed in 2012. Chrysler is a major domestic automaker along with GM who distributes its Chevrolet models to Bradenton Chevrolet Dealer businesses and other dealers throughout the country. Chrysler is doing better than expected and Obama's current tour of auto plants shows how the government bailout of 2009 did affect some businesses and industry. Rome Chevrolet Dealers and other domestic dealers are now seeing an increase of sales after the large drop off in 2009.

Volkswagen Peoria sells imported automobiles and time will tell whether even imported brands will be able to maintain their high level of success and sales. Almost every domestic and foreign automaker suffered from reduced sales in the United States last year, and now Europe too has slowed in auto purchases. However, Chrysler has shown its resilience after filing for bankruptcy protection in 2009.

As for the factory in Sterling Heights, Chrysler said that it will be using the plant to build the Fiat successors to the Chrysler Sebring and the Dodge Avenger. The current Sebring and Avenger models will be updated in 2011, and then they will be fully replaced in 2012 by models that are built on a Fiat platform.

While the new Fiat platform models are in production, Chrysler will be building its 2011 models of the Sebring and the Avenger at its Sterling Heights Michigan factory. The factory will also hire 900 workers in the first quarter of 2011 to help with the production of these models. It looks like Chrysler is able to continue to produce and hire workers, and ultimately the success of the United States auto industry will depend not only on domestic demand but also foreign demand for vehicles made in the United States.
