Along Comes a Game Changer

Every now and then someone comes along and tries to make a difference in how things are done. A friend and my new boss Richard Keith Latman is one of those people. He is trying to revolutionize the automotive CRM space. The only down side to that is that the big manufacturers are pushing dealers to consolidated solutions.

This will allow the manufacturers to control more of the dealers day to day operations and may not prove to be beneficial to dealers of the US manufactured vehicles over the long haul. By forcing dealers to use big box solutions they remove the flexibility to stand out from their competition and to move a head of the pack.

Ford, GM and Chrysler really do not car about supporting their dealers as much as moving metal. The don't care which dealer you buy from as long as you buy one of their products. It is a move away from the dealer model if they micro manage their dealers to this level and not allow them to differentiate themselves from one another. 

Fiat to increase Chrysler holdings;

Fiat SpA will be increasing its share holdings of Chrysler and will buy the remaining stake in Chrysler after Chrysler sells its U.S. held stake. After the deal, Fiat will own 57 percent of Chrysler. Fiat's recent acquisition of Chrysler has resulted in major strides in turning around the company with a number of quality new models being released. Other quality domestic models can be purchased at a Tysons Corner Chevrolet dealership. Both Chrysler and GM have had success after emerging from bankruptcy, and GM's latest Chevy models can be purchased from a Canton Chevrolet Dealer. Chrysler and GM had to declare bankruptcy but Ford did not end up declaring bankruptcy and Ford's latest models can be purchased from Ford Dealers GA.

Fiat is looking to consolidate Chrysler and Fiat notified the U.S. Treasurey of its intent to purchase the U.S. government's 6.6 percent stake in Chrysler. Fiat is moving faster to claim this share of Chrysler than most people had anticipated and Chrysler is making strong strides to improve its credit rating, similar to steps GM has taken. Chrysler may hold an IPO as well in the next few months to raise even more capital to reduce debts. Fiat and Chrysler have not yet merged but at some point it looks like the companies will merge.

Fiat increased its Chrysler holdings to 46 percent after Chrysler repaid $7.6 billion of U.S. and Canadian government loans. The loans had higher interest rates than the loans that Chrysler used to pay them off, and the result is that Chrysler's credit rating may improve. A UAW trust currently owns 45.7 percent of Chrysler which is down from 59.2 percent. Fiat will gain an additional 5 percent in the fourth quarter of 2011 and in exchange it will develop a fuel efficient vehicle for Chrysler. Shares will be negotiated between Fiat and the U.S. Treasury department, and an agreement should be reached within 10 days of the notice, otherwise an investment bank will decide.

Chrysler to release new Viper;

Chrysler will be releasing a new Viper model that is similar to the Alfa Romeo 8C, a vehicle owned by Fiat which now owns a large stake in Chrysler. Competing sporty models can be test drive or purchased from a Mazda Dealer Cambridge, and Chrysler is looking to expand its Viper market with the latest redesign. Nissan and other foreign automakers have also been looking to expand their own vehicle offerings and offer more sporty models like the Nissan 370Z which can be purchased from a Nissan Dealership Meridian. The current Dodge Viper is a V10 model that is designed to appeal to a wide range of customers, similar to models that can be purchased from a Mazda Dealership Pennsylvania, but the new Dodge Viper may be more fuel efficient than previous models.

Dodge is interviewing owners of Porsche vehicles and other luxury sports cars to try to find out what exactly they want the most in a luxury sports car, and the company is using this feedback to help it design the new Viper. Other buyers of high end brands were interviewed as well in an attempt to "pick their brains" to find out what they admire the most about high end sports cars. They also used feedback on what the buyers didn't like about their Viper or other sports car. Chrysler typically does not deal with the high end buyer except for its Viper model, so this is why the company is seeking consumer feedback to help it determine what buyers in that market prefer.

The Viper will be released after a redesign, and the previous generation Viper ceased production in July of 2010. Dodge sold 392 Vipers in 2010 which was down from 482 in 2009 and 1,172 in 2008. The redesigned Viper is currently a mystery in terms of what its features will include, but the car was shown last year at a meeting in Orlando. The car that was shown was similar to the Alfa Romeo 8C Competizione which is a limited edition vehicle sold at Mazerati dealerships.

My husband plays in a city wide soccer league and I enjoy getting together with friends to scrapbook our families latest memories. Our car is the single thing that makes it possible for our lives to be rich and full. I cannot imagine forcing my kids or my husband to stay home all the time and find ways to entertain themselves. My car has brought an incredible richness to each of our lives.

Another thing I love having about a car is that it allows my family to have close friendships with people all across town. While we enjoy time with our close neighbors, some of our best friends happen to live a drive away, and having a car makes it possible to visit them and spend time together. Even my siblings and my parents live too far away to walk to their homes, so I have been very grateful over the years for the ways my car has allowed me to stay connected to my family and friends.

Consider all of the ways your car has benefited your life. If you are anything like me, I take my car for granted. I do not take care of it properly and then I get frustrated when my car doesn't run perfectly. In the past couple of years I have started getting the car in for regular oil changes, I have committed to keeping the inside and the outside cleaner, and I take it to a mechanic for a regular tune up. I figure that for all the great things my car does for me, keeping it cared for is the least I can do for my car.

Ford Fiesta sells 1 million;
